Video France 24: Un sommet aux objectifs modestes ?

Practice your French skills with free activities based on authentic resources. These activities are ideal for preparing for DELF/DALF exams, as well as for engaging in casual conversations about everyday life or the News. In this article, I propose that you practice your French with exercises based on a video created by the international News channel France 24.

ORAL COMPREHENSION EXERCISE
Instructions to optimize your training:
Play the video and just listen to it once completely, without watching the screen.
Read the questions in the Quiz and try to answer them.
Watch the video once completely at the normal pace and complete your answers.
Watch it again reducing the pace to 0.75 and pausing it when necessary and complete your answers.

Arriver à une déclaration commune.
Useful vocabulary:
prendre la parole = to speak out / take the floor
un discours = a speech
accueillir = to welcome
participer à un évènement = to attend an event
une soixantaine = sixtyish
en revanche = however
alors que = even though
avoir lieu = to take place
plancher sur un sujet = to work / study on a topic
être en péril = to be in danger / to be at risk
le réchauffement climatique = the global warming
la pêche = the fishing
d'ores et déjà (soutenu) = already
Verbal tics: euh and hein
Please note the sounds euh and hein the journalist says in between words. They are typical French verbal tic. The sound euh shows an hesitation when it is long, in the video, it's just a natural sound the journalist does unconsciously. The sound hein is normally used as a what? to ask someone to repeat. In this case the journalist use it more like an isn't it?, she doesn't expect any answer but want to reassure her affirmations.
WRITTEN PRODUCTION EXERCICE
Write a text (200 words) to answer the following question, organizing your arguments using logical connectors like en revanche et alors que.
Quels sont les difficultés de votre pays/région en matière de protection de la qualité de l'eau ?
Pensez-vous que le gouvernement de votre pays/région protège correctement cette ressource ?

ORAL PRODUCTION EXERCISE
Take 10 minutes to prepare a 3-minute monologue presenting the video's topic and your opinion on it: Is this event an efficient way to protect the oceans?
After your monologue, you will interact with the examiner on the same topic. Anticipate the examiner's counterarguments to be ready to defend your opinion.
