Here we are! The Paris 2024 Olympics 2024 are starting!

Useful Vocabulary

• Réinventer = inventer encore une fois

Remark: in French, we add the prefix re- at the beginning of a verb to indicate that the action is repeated (ex. faire>refaire, jouer>rejouer)

• un pont = a bridge

• un milliard = 1 000 000 000

• le départ = the starting point, the departure

Remarque : le départ is a noun, not a verb (to leave, to start from = partir de)

• un fleuve = a river that flows into the sea or the ocean.

Remark: in French we make a difference between a river that flows into another river (une rivière) and a river that flows into the sea or the ocean (un fleuve).

• un quai = a platform, a quay. Une plateforme qui permet d'embarquer dans un bateau ou de monter dans un train.

• fluvial = du fleuve

• défiler = to parade

• la voie = the way

• le défilé = the parade

• le show = le spectacle (on utilise le mot anglais aussi en français)

• saupoudrer = to sprinkle

• mêler = mélanger

• la rive = le bord d'une rivière

Remark: in Paris, we often indicate which side of the Seine is the location we're talking about, left bank or right bank.

• en revanche = on the other hand

• tandis que = whereas

• une averse = une grosse pluie de courte durée
